Endoscopic Resection

Endoscopic resection is a minimally invasive technique that removes abnormal or early-stage lesions from the lining of hollow organs, most commonly the gastrointestinal tract, without open surgery. During the procedure, an endoscope provides visualization while instruments passed through its channels separate the lesion from surrounding tissue, often using submucosal injection to lift it and a snare or cutting device to excise it. Depending on lesion size and depth, approaches such as endoscopic mucosal resection or endoscopic submucosal dissection may be used. Resected tissue supports histopathological assessment, while effective removal can treat selected cancers, precancerous growths, and other localized abnormalities.

Lateral Molar Approach-Driven Transoral Endoscopic Procedure for Benign Infratemporal Fossa Tumor Resection

2025

Here, we present a protocol to resect benign infratemporal fossa tumors via an endoscopic-assisted transoral lateral molar approach with low-temperature plasma ablation and intraoperative mandibular nerve monitoring. This minimally invasive technique prioritizes anatomical preservation, functional recovery, and avoidance of external scarring, demonstrating feasibility for well-demarcated lesions ≤4 cm in diameter.

Endoscopic Approach for Colloid Cyst Resection

This protocol details a minimally invasive endoscopic technique for the removal of third ventricular colloid cysts. It provides a comprehensive overview of preoperative preparations, surgical steps, and postoperative outcomes, emphasizing reduced recovery time, minimal complications, and total cyst removal. This approach is a safe and effective alternative to traditional microsurgery.

Full-Endoscopic Surgery for Hypothalamic Hamartoma Resection

Hypothalamic hamartomas are rare, non-neoplastic congenital malformations mainly arising from the inferior hypothalamus or tuber cinereum. Surgical treatment is one of the most effective options, and the surgical approach must be precisely determined for each patient. Here, we describe the full-endoscopic technique for resecting hypothalamic hamartomas.

Source: Alomari, S., et al. Implementation of Minimally Invasive Brain Tumor Resection in Rodents for High Viability Tissue Collection. J. Vis. Exp. (2022)This video demonstrates the use of a minimally invasive resection system (MIRS) to excise tumor tissue from an anesthetized mouse implanted with a tumor. The procedure involves securing the mouse onto a stereotactic frame, reopening the previous surgical site to access the brain, and inserting a specialized cannula that utilizes suction and a...
