Perfused Vessel Density

Perfused vessel density is a measure of the length or number of blood vessels that actively carry blood within a defined tissue area, providing an index of functional microcirculation. It is typically assessed with vascular imaging by identifying vessels that contain moving red blood cells and quantifying their distribution, often alongside vessel density and flow characteristics. In medicine, this measurement helps evaluate tissue perfusion, microvascular dysfunction, and changes in the circulation associated with disease or treatment. It can support research on shock, inflammation, angiogenesis, and organ function by linking microscopic blood flow to tissue oxygen delivery and clinical outcomes.

Analysis of rodent cerebrovascular anatomy plays an important role in experimental stroke research. In this context, intravascular perfusion with colored latex has been considered as a standard tool for several years. However, this technique implies distinct technical limitations, which undermine its reproducibility. Here, we describe a simple method to visualize cerebral vessels in a reproducible manner. Injection of a mixture of two commercially available carbon black inks through the left...

Assessing Vessel Perfusion via Angiography: A Technique to Introduce Contrast Agent in Descending Aorta to Visualize Blood Vessel Perfusion in Rabbit Model
