Rat Evlp Model

The rat ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) model is an experimental system that maintains isolated lungs outside the body to study pulmonary function and injury under controlled conditions. In this model, researchers ventilate the lungs while circulating a perfusion solution through the pulmonary vasculature, enabling assessment of gas exchange, edema, vascular resistance, and tissue responses without systemic influences. The model supports investigation of lung injury, inflammation, ischemia-reperfusion damage, and potential therapies in medicine. Because it permits repeated measurements and controlled manipulation of perfusion conditions, rat EVLP can help clarify disease mechanisms and evaluate interventions relevant to organ preservation and transplantation.
