Surgical Osteotomy Technique

Surgical osteotomy is an operative technique in which a surgeon deliberately cuts and reshapes bone to correct alignment, length, or spatial relationships within the musculoskeletal system. Using a planned bone cut with instruments such as a saw or osteotome, the surgeon repositions the bone and stabilizes it so healing occurs in the intended configuration; planning may rely on imaging and mechanical-axis assessment. In medicine, osteotomy can address congenital or acquired deformities, malalignment around joints, limb-length differences, and selected degenerative conditions. By restoring biomechanics and redistributing forces, the procedure can improve function, relieve pain, and sometimes delay or avoid joint replacement.

Surgical Technique for the Implantation of a Biomimetic Artificial Intervertebral Disc in a Goat Animal Model

2025

This study presents a novel surgical technique for implanting a biomimetic artificial intervertebral disc (BioAID). The method ensures precise placement and stability, aiming to restore cervical spine function using a goat model. This technique shows promise for clinical application in both human and canine patients suffering from cervical spine myelopathy.

A Standardized Surgical Technique for Tessier Medial Transnasal Canthopexy

Medial canthopexy allows correction of the position and fixation of the medial canthal tendon. Due to the technical difficulties of this procedure, there is a need for a detailed protocol for educational purposes. Here, we describe a standardized reproducible technique for bilateral medial transnasal canthopexy by an orbitonasal approach.

One constraint of preclinical research in the field of bone repair is the lack of experimental control over the local mechanical environment within a healing bone lesion. We report the design and use of an external fixator for bone repair with the ability to change fixator stiffness in vivo.

This protocol presents a new surgical technique of mouse kidney transplantation focusing on a modified arterial anastomosis strategy. A vascular suture technique including a simple and safer ureter-bladder anastomosis method is also presented. These modifications shorten the operation time and improve the success rate of the mouse kidney transplantation procedure.
