Wong-baker Faces

The Wong-Baker Faces scale is a visual self-report tool that helps patients communicate pain intensity, especially when verbal descriptions or numerical ratings are difficult. It presents a sequence of facial expressions linked to increasing pain scores, commonly from 0, meaning no hurt, to 10, meaning the worst hurt, and the patient selects the face that best matches their experience. Clinicians can use the selected score during assessment, treatment, and follow-up to establish a baseline, evaluate changes, and support communication among patients, families, and healthcare teams.

As neuroscience inquiry becomes more sophisticated, investigation of brain structures and circuitry requires improved levels of accuracy and higher resolution. We have developed a method for the preparation and implantation of a chronic infusion system within the brain utilizing a borosilicate microcannula with a tip diameter of 50 microns.

Quantitation of DNA double-strand breaks on the basis of γH2AX foci has become an invaluable tool, particularly in radiation biology, for the evaluation of tissue radiosensitivity and effects of radiation modifying compounds. Here we demonstrate the use of an immunofluorescence assay for quantitation of γH2AX foci in tissue samples.
