Brain Removal Technique

Brain removal technique is a dissection method used to extract the brain from the skull while preserving its overall structure for anatomical and experimental study. In neuroscience, the procedure involves exposing the cranial cavity, carefully separating the brain from surrounding tissues, and supporting the specimen to limit mechanical damage and distortion. The isolated brain can then be examined through gross anatomy, tissue sectioning, staining, imaging, or molecular analysis. By providing access to intact neural structures, this technique supports research on brain organization, development, disease-related changes, and the relationship between neuroanatomy and function.

A Stereotactically Guided Ablation Technique for Auditory Cortex Removal in Rats

2025

This video demonstrates a stereotactically-guided surgical procedure for ablating the auditory cortex in a rat. The steps include identifying anatomical landmarks in an anesthetized rat secured in a stereotactic frame, creating a window on the skull above the auditory cortex, aspirating the cortical layers, and providing post-operative care to assess the impact of the ablation on sound processing.
