Lidocaine Hydrochloride

Lidocaine hydrochloride is the water-soluble hydrochloride salt of lidocaine, a local anesthetic that temporarily blocks nerve signaling and is widely studied in neuroscience. It works by binding voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, stabilizing their inactivated state and reducing sodium influx required for action-potential initiation and propagation. This reversible suppression of excitability produces localized loss of sensation without initially affecting consciousness, making lidocaine useful for investigating neural conduction, sensory pathways, and synaptic function. Clinically and experimentally, it supports local or regional anesthesia, treatment of certain pain states, and research on how ion-channel modulation alters nervous-system activity.

A protocol for performing unilateral 6-OHDA lesions of the medial forebrain bundle in mice is described. This method has a low mortality rate (13.3 %) with 89% of the surviving animals showing >95% loss of striatal dopamine and 90.63±-4.02 % ipsiversive rotational bias towards the side of the lesion.

The topical anesthetic lidocaine was atomized using a high oxygen flow through the working channel of a flexible intubating endoscope to achieve topical airway anesthesia for awake endotracheal intubation. We prefer this modified spray-as-you-go technique for endoscopic intubation to classical bolus application because of higher patient satisfaction and better compliance.

Intra-articular Shoulder Injection for Reduction Following Shoulder Dislocation

2023

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA The anterior shoulder dislocation is one of the most common joint dislocations seen in emergency settings. In anterior shoulder dislocation, the humeral head is displaced out of the glenohumeral joint in front of the scapular glenoid, resulting in a loss of the articulation between the arm and the rest of the shoulder. This can be caused by a fall onto an abducted, extended, and externally...
