Non-invasive Brain Therapy

Non-invasive brain therapy comprises treatments that alter brain activity without surgically entering the skull, offering approaches for neurological and psychiatric care with reduced procedural invasiveness. Depending on the method, external magnetic fields, electrical currents, or focused ultrasound influence neuronal excitability and circuit function; for example, transcranial magnetic stimulation induces brief electrical currents in targeted cortical regions, while transcranial direct current stimulation applies a weak current through scalp electrodes. These therapies support research into brain networks and may aid rehabilitation or symptom management in conditions such as depression, chronic pain, and movement disorders. Their clinical impact depends on precise targeting, stimulation parameters, and patient response.

(2020)This video demonstrates an impedance-based assay to measure glioblastoma cell invasion and migration. Cells degrade the extracellular matrix, move through microporous membranes, and adhere to electrodes, generating impedance. This real-time analysis reflects their invasive potential for cancer research applications.
