Round Window Membrane Injection

Round window membrane injection is a minimally invasive technique for delivering drugs, genes, or other therapeutic materials into the cochlea, the sensory organ responsible for hearing. The procedure introduces a formulation through the round window membrane, a flexible boundary between the middle ear and cochlear fluids, allowing substances to enter the inner ear while avoiding direct penetration of the cochlear wall. In neuroscience, this approach supports research on cochlear biology, auditory nerve function, hearing loss, and balance disorders. It also provides a route for evaluating local therapies, although delivery efficiency depends on factors such as formulation properties, membrane permeability, dose, and surgical precision.
