Virtual Male Stimulus

A virtual male stimulus is a computer-generated visual or audiovisual representation of a male individual used to elicit and measure neural responses under controlled experimental conditions. Researchers manipulate features such as appearance, movement, facial expression, or social context while recording activity through methods including functional neuroimaging, electroencephalography, or behavioral measures, allowing stimulus properties to be linked with perception and social cognition. In neuroscience, these stimuli support research on visual processing, attention, emotion, social evaluation, and sex-related differences in brain responses, while improving experimental control and reproducibility compared with less standardized real-world interactions.

In the context of the virtual celebrity experience, content quality most strongly drives satisfaction; satisfaction, in turn, increases purchase intention indirectly via loyalty. Personalization strengthens the satisfaction-loyalty link, so firms should prioritize emotion-evoking, narrative-consistent virtual celebrity content and personalized loyalty programs.

Enriching for Males: Maintaining a Stock of Male C. elegans

Nematodes can be propagated easily in the lab--in part because hermaphrodites can reproduce by self-fertilization. However, genetic crosses and other experiments may require a large number of males. This video describes a method to enrich for male C. elegans.

Inducing Axonal Varicosities with a Micromechanical Stimulus on Neurons

2025

This video demonstrates the induction of axonal varicosities by applying micromechanical stimulus on neurons. The system comprises a micropipette attached to a syringe containing buffer via tubing. Using a micromanipulator, the micropipette is positioned above the neurons. Fluid pressure is then applied to induce varicosities in axons.

Classical fear conditioning paradigm was adapted for human participants in a fully immersive virtual reality setting. Using a discrimination paradigm, conditioned fear, cue and context memory retention, and extinction was measured with skin conductance response to dynamic virtual snakes and spiders (the conditioned stimuli) in two distinct virtual contexts.

Source: Joseph Donroe, MD, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, CT While its usefulness in cancer screening is debated, the male rectal examination remains an important part of the physical exam. The exam is indicated in selected patients with lower urinary tract symptoms, urinary and/or fecal incontinence or retention, back pain, anorectal symptoms, abdominal complaints, trauma patients, unexplained anemia, weight loss, or bone pain.
