5-ht2a Receptor

The 5-HT2A receptor is a serotonin-activated G protein-coupled receptor that regulates neuronal signaling and contributes to serotonin’s effects in the central nervous system. When serotonin or another ligand binds, the receptor primarily activates Gq/11 proteins, stimulating phospholipase C and increasing intracellular inositol trisphosphate, diacylglycerol, and calcium signaling. Its distribution and signaling make it an important pharmacological target for studying perception, cognition, mood, and vascular responses. Research on 5-HT2A receptor agonists, antagonists, and inverse agonists supports investigation of psychedelic drug mechanisms, antipsychotic therapies, and the molecular basis of neuropsychiatric disorders.

Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: 5-HT3 Receptor Antagonists

2024

5-HT3 receptor antagonists, such as dolasetron, granisetron (Kytril), ondansetron (Zofran), and palonosetron (Axoli), are crucial in managing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and postoperative nausea. These drugs selectively block 5-HT3 receptors in the visceral vagal and spinal afferent nerves, chemoreceptor trigger zone, and the vomiting center. They have a rapid onset of action and can be given as a single dose before chemotherapy. Ondansetron and granisetron, in particular,...

5-Number Summary

2023

In a dataset, the 5-number summary includes the minimum data value, the data value of the first quartile, the median data value or data value of the second quartile, the data value of the third quartile, and the maximum data value. These 5 data values can be visualized as a box and whisker plot. In a box plot, the minimum and maximum data values represent the lower and upper whiskers in the graph, and the median is designated as the center of the box in the chart. The first quartile and third...

The 5 c's of Pricing

2024

The 5 Cs of pricing provide a comprehensive framework for strategic pricing decisions. They include: Company Objectives: The company's goals are pivotal in determining pricing. Whether the aim is to maximize profit, increase market share, or survive in a competitive market, it will directly influence the pricing strategy. Cost: It involves calculating the total cost of producing a product or service, including fixed and variable costs. Pricing must cover these costs and provide a reasonable...

Here we present a protocol to describe the localization of angiotensin II Type 1 receptors in the rat brain by quantitative, densitometric, in vitro receptor autoradiography using an iodine-125 labeled analog of angiotensin II.

High-throughput Analysis of Mammalian Olfactory Receptors: Measurement of Receptor Activation via Luciferase Activity

2014

Olfactory receptor activation patterns encode odor identity, but the lack of published data identifying odorant ligands for mammalian olfactory receptors hinders the development of a comprehensive model of odor coding. This protocol describes a method to facilitate high-throughput identification of olfactory receptor ligands and quantification of receptor activation.
