Ovalbumin Sensitization

Ovalbumin sensitization is an experimental method used to induce and study antigen-specific allergic immune responses, particularly airway inflammation, in animal models. Typically, ovalbumin is administered with an adjuvant to prime the immune system, followed by one or more ovalbumin challenges that activate antigen-specific T cells, IgE production, eosinophil recruitment, and inflammatory signaling in the airways. In pharmacology, this model helps researchers evaluate allergic asthma mechanisms, measure outcomes such as airway hyperresponsiveness and tissue inflammation, and test the efficacy of anti-inflammatory or antiallergic therapies. Its controlled design supports comparisons among treatments and investigation of immune pathways involved in hypersensitivity.

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University Today's modern world requires the use of a large amount of energy. While we harness energy from fossil fuels such as coal and oil, these sources are nonrenewable and thus the supply is limited. To maintain our global lifestyle, we must extract energy from renewable sources. The most promising renewable source, in terms of abundance, is the sun, which provides us with more than enough solar energy to fully fuel our...

In healthcare diagnostics, laboratory tests play a crucial role in identifying and diagnosing a wide range of medical conditions. However, interpreting test results is not always straightforward. An abnormal test result does not always confirm the presence of a disease, just as a normal result does not guarantee its absence. To assess the reliability of these diagnostic tools, healthcare practitioners rely on two key statistical indicators: sensitivity and specificity. Sensitivity is the...
