Czerny-turner Spectrograph

A Czerny-Turner spectrograph is an optical instrument that separates light into its component wavelengths, enabling scientists to measure and interpret spectra in physics and related fields. Light entering through a narrow slit is collimated by a concave mirror, dispersed by a plane diffraction grating, and focused by a second concave mirror onto a detector or photographic surface. The instrument can analyze emission and absorption features, identify elements, and determine spectral properties with high resolution. Its flexible optical layout and compatibility with different gratings and detectors make it useful for laboratory spectroscopy, astronomical observations, plasma studies, and optical calibration.

For creation of highly organized structures of complex tissue, one must assemble multiple material and cell types into an integrated composite. This combinatorial design incorporates organ-specific layered cell sheets with two distinct biologically-derived materials containing a strong fibrous matrix base, and endothelial cells for enhancing new vessels formation.

Despite ongoing efforts to transition cultures to feeder-free conditions, the derivation and culture of human embryonic stem cells (hESC) remain largely dependent on co-cultures with mouse embryonic feeders (MEFs). Here, we show a novel methodology for rapidly removing feeders from hESC cultures prior to experimentation.

A Simple Dewar/Cryostat for Thermally Equilibrating Samples at Known Temperatures for Accurate Cryogenic Luminescence Measurements

2016

A simple liquid nitrogen Dewar/cryostat apparatus comprised of a small fused silica optical Dewar, a thermocouple, and a charge-coupled device (CCD) spectrograph are described. The experiments for which this Dewar/cryostat is designed require fast sample loading, freezing, and alignment, accurate and stable sample temperatures, and small size/portability.
