Motion Projection

Motion projection is the representation of an object's motion along a chosen direction, axis, or plane, allowing a complex trajectory to be analyzed through simpler components. In physics, the velocity or displacement vector is projected by taking its component along a unit vector, or by resolving it into perpendicular coordinates; this separates, for example, horizontal and vertical motion. The method supports analysis of projectile trajectories, relative motion, collisions, and motion observed from different viewpoints. By reducing vector relationships to measurable components, motion projection clarifies how forces and constraints influence movement and provides a foundation for modeling motion in mechanics and engineering.

Fischer Projections

Learning to draw Fischer projections of molecules and understanding their relevance plays a crucial role in the visual depiction of organic molecules. A Fischer projection is a two-dimensional projection on a planar surface to simplify the three-dimensional wedge–dash representation of molecules. This is especially helpful in the case of molecules with multiple chiral centers that can be difficult to draw. Here, all the bonds of interest are represented as horizontal or vertical lines. While...

Different notations are used to represent the three-dimensional structure of molecules on two-dimensional surfaces. One of the most commonly used representations is the dash-wedge formula. The dashed wedges, solid wedges, and the plane lines indicate the groups situated behind the plane, coming out of the plane, and in the plane, respectively. The organic molecules rotate across the single bonds leading to numerous temporary three-dimensional structures of varying energy known as conformers.

We suggest a Born normalized approach for Optical Projection Tomography (BnOPT) that accounts for the absorption properties of imaged samples to obtain accurate and quantitative fluorescence tomographic reconstructions. We use the proposed algorithm to reconstruct the fluorescence molecular probe distribution within small animal organs.

Source: Ketron Mitchell-Wynne, PhD, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA This experiment demonstrates the kinematics of motion in 1 and 2 dimensions. This lab will begin by studying motion in 1 dimension, under constant acceleration, by launching a projectile directly upward and measuring the maximum height reached. This lab will verify that the maximum height reached is consistent with the kinematic...
