Submicron Particle Transport

Submicron particle transport is the study of how particles smaller than one micrometer move through fluids, gases, or other environments, a process central to physics and many technologies. At this scale, random Brownian motion and molecular collisions strongly influence movement, while viscous drag, diffusion, fluid flow, and forces such as gravity or electrostatic attraction determine particle trajectories and deposition. Understanding these mechanisms supports the design of aerosol and filtration systems, microfluidic devices, atmospheric models, and semiconductor manufacturing processes. Transport studies also help predict particle exposure, improve separation methods, and control the delivery or assembly of nanoscale materials.

We describe novel, simple methodologies of synthesis and characterization of biocompatible lignin micro- and submicron particles. These formulations provide a facile approach for the utilization of the heteropolymer, as well as an alternative for the rational design of multifunctional carrier matrices with potential applicability in biomedicine, pharmaceutical technology, and the food industry.

Micropunching Lithography for Generating Micro- and Submicron-patterns on Polymer Substrates

A micropunching lithography approach is developed to generate micro- and submicron-patterns on top, sidewall and bottom surfaces of polymer substrates. It overcomes the obstacles of patterning conducting polymers and generating sidewall patterns. This method allows rapid fabrication of multiple features and is free of aggressive chemistry.

Regulated mRNA Transport

2020

In eukaryotes, transcription and translation are compartmentalized; an mRNA is first synthesized in the nucleus and then selectively transported to the cytoplasm for protein synthesis. Before transport, a pre-mRNA undergoes several steps of post-transcriptional modifications including splicing, 5' capping, and the addition of a poly-adenine tail. Various proteins bind to the pre-mRNA during these modifications. The mRNA transport takes place with the help of multiple proteins playing specific...

Subatomic Particles

Dalton was only partially correct about the particles that make up matter. All matter is composed of atoms, and atoms are composed of three smaller subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. These three particles account for the mass and the charge of an atom. The Discovery of the Electron The first clue about the subatomic structure came at the end of the 19th century when J.J. Thomson discovered the electron using a cathode ray tube. This apparatus consisted of a sealed glass...
