Drug Induced States

Drug-induced states are temporary changes in consciousness, perception, mood, cognition, or behavior caused by psychoactive substances, making them important for understanding how brain chemistry shapes mental experience. These substances alter neural signaling by interacting with neurotransmitter systems that regulate arousal, reward, inhibition, sensory processing, and emotional responses, with effects influenced by dose, timing, and individual physiology. In psychology, studying drug-induced states supports research on brain-behavior relationships, substance use, altered consciousness, and the distinction between pharmacological effects and psychiatric symptoms. This knowledge also informs clinical assessment, treatment development, and safer approaches to investigating cognition and behavior.

This video describes the technique of creating a zebrafish cardiomyopathy model with minimal variations among experimental groups and in the sample, we create zebrafish cardiomyopathy model using the drug doxorubicin.

Enhancing Drug Delivery in Recurrent Glioblastoma with Laser-Induced Hyperthermia

Begin with an anesthetized human patient diagnosed with recurrent glioblastoma, an invasive tumor characterized by tumor cell infiltration into the surrounding peritumoral region. The peritumoral region retains an intact blood-brain barrier (BBB), where tight junctions between endothelial cells restrict drug penetration.Make an incision in the scalp, create an opening in the skull, and insert a laser probe into the tumor core using MRI guidance.Deliver laser light through the probe.Tissue...

Rapid Quantification of Mitogen-induced Blastogenesis in T Lymphocytes for Identifying Immunomodulatory Drugs

2016

T-lymphocyte mitogenesis is accompanied by blastogenic transformation, whereupon the cell volume enlarges before cell division. Here, we describe a method to quantify blastogenesis in T lymphocytes using an automated cell counter with the capability of measuring cell diameters.

Modeling Drug-Induced Hemorrhage in Zebrafish Larva

2025

In this video, fertilized zebrafish embryos are dechorionated under a stereo microscope and then exposed to a cholesterol synthesis inhibitor, leading to the development of blood vessel ruptures and brain hemorrhages in the larvae. Hemorrhagic larvae, identifiable by distinct red spots, are subsequently separated under a microscope for further analysis.

Tracking Drug-induced Changes in Receptor Post-internalization Trafficking by Colocalizational Analysis

Receptor trafficking modulates signaling and cell responsiveness to ligands and is, itself, responsive to cell conditions, including ligand-induced signaling. Here, we describe a powerful and flexible technique for quantitatively assessing drug-induced receptor trafficking using immunolabeling and colocalizational analysis.
