Media Influence

Media influence is the process by which messages and representations in television, news, social media, advertising, and other communication channels shape people’s thoughts, emotions, attitudes, and behavior. In psychology, it operates through mechanisms such as social learning, repeated exposure, framing, and priming, which can affect how individuals interpret information, judge social norms, and make decisions. Researchers study these effects using experiments, surveys, longitudinal designs, and content analysis to examine factors such as message characteristics, audience beliefs, and media use. Understanding media influence supports research on persuasion, prejudice, health communication, political behavior, and media literacy.
