Development is influenced by two main factors: internal and external.
First, internal influences come from heredity and biological processes.
Heredity refers to genetic traits and characteristics inherited from biological parents. It helps to shape physical features, such as eye color, and behavioral traits, such as temperament.
Biological processes refer to the body's natural physical and physiological changes that happen over time.
These support early developmental milestones, such as walking, through brain development and motor coordination.
Next, external influences come from the environment.
Environmental factors influence development at the conception stage and continue throughout life.
These include prenatal conditions, the family environment, education, and peer interactions.
The interplay between heredity and environment determines individual traits.
For example, intelligence is influenced by inherited genes, but it is also shaped by parental support and educational opportunities.
