Mental Health Care

Mental health care is the coordinated prevention, assessment, and treatment of psychological, emotional, and behavioral difficulties, supporting well-being and daily functioning. In psychology, care begins with evaluating symptoms, history, risks, and social context, then matching interventions such as psychotherapy, behavioral techniques, psychoeducation, and, when appropriate, referral for medication management; therapeutic change may occur through skills practice, cognitive restructuring, and supportive relationships. Mental health care is applied in individual, family, group, school, and community settings to address conditions including anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, and substance-use problems. Early, accessible care can reduce impairment, strengthen coping, and improve long-term outcomes.
