Für eine stetige und differenzierbare Kurve findet man dies durch Summieren kleiner linearer Segmente entlang der Kurve. Diese Segmente approximieren die Kurve mithilfe horizontaler und vertikaler Änderungen, ähnlich einer Riemannschen Summe.
Wenn die Segmentgröße sich Null nähert, wird die Summe zu einem Integral, das die exakte Bogenlänge angibt.
