Portable Strip Reader

A Portable Strip Reader is a handheld analytical device that interprets chemical or biochemical reactions on disposable test strips, converting visible or electrochemical signals into measurable results. In biochemical assays, a sample moves through treated zones by capillary action, where target molecules react with immobilized reagents and generate a signal that the reader measures. These instruments support rapid screening and quantitative analysis outside centralized laboratories, including field testing and point-of-care applications. Their portability, standardized readout, and reduced dependence on visual interpretation can improve consistency when monitoring biomarkers, contaminants, or diagnostic targets.

Introduction to the Microplate Reader

2023

The microplate reader is a multimodal instrument that allows for a variety of experiments to be performed and measured simultaneously. Microplate readers can make absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence measurements. Multiwell plates are integral to the microplate reader and allow for many experiments to be performed at once. Regardless of the assay type, experiments on the plate reader utilize a standard curve to determine the experimental values. This curve uses samples of known...

Voltammetry: Stripping Methods

2024

Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (ASV), Cathodic Stripping Voltammetry (CSV), and Adsorptive Stripping Voltammetry (AdSV) are electrochemical techniques used to determine trace amounts of analytes in solution. These methods involve applying a potential to an electrode and measuring the resulting current. Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (ASV) ASV is used to determine metals and metalloids at trace levels. It involves two steps: deposition and stripping. First, a negative potential is applied to the...

Development of a Colloidal Gold-based Immunochromatographic Test Strip for Detection of Cetacean Myoglobin

This protocol describes the development of two IgG class monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) strongly reactive to myoglobin of cetaceans. These mAbs are applied on a colloidal gold immunochromatographic test strip based on the sandwich format to differentiate the Mb of cetaceans from seal and other animals.
