3d Lung Tumor Model

A 3D lung tumor model is a laboratory system that recreates key features of lung cancer in three dimensions, providing a more tissue-like setting than conventional two-dimensional cell cultures. In bioengineering, researchers organize lung tumor cells within engineered scaffolds, extracellular matrix materials, or multicellular cultures so that cells interact, proliferate, and respond to their surrounding microenvironment. These models can support studies of tumor growth, cell behavior, drug response, and interactions between cancer cells and neighboring tissues. By improving the biological relevance of experimental systems, 3D lung tumor models help bridge basic cancer research and the development of more predictive approaches for therapeutic evaluation.

2023

This video describes the two invitro model systems to capture the tissue architectural changes during lung squamous carcinoma progression in a 3-dimensional (3D) co-culture with cancer-associated fibroblasts. This system provides a unique platform to investigate the role of intrinsic and extrinsic changes that affect the tumor phenotype.

We present a three-dimensional (3D) lung cancer model based on a biological collagen scaffold to study sensitivity towards non-small-cell-lung-cancer-(NSCLC)-targeted therapies. We demonstrate different read-out techniques to determine the proliferation index, apoptosis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) status. Collected data are integrated into an in silico model for prediction of drug sensitivity.

Organoids derived from tumors are a type of 3D cell culture model that can maintain the pathological features and organ-specific cell lineage of tumors. In the example protocol, we will see scientists generate organoids from a prostate tumor from a genetically engineered mouse model.

Human tuberculosis infection is a complex process, which is difficult to model in vitro. Here we describe a novel 3D human lung tissue model that recapitulates the dynamics that occur during infection, including the migration of immune cells and early granuloma formation in a physiological environment.
