Cad Design

CAD design is the computer-aided creation, modification, and documentation of precise two- and three-dimensional models, making it an essential tool for developing and communicating engineered products. In bioengineering, designers build parametric models by defining geometric features, dimensions, constraints, and material or assembly relationships that can be revised efficiently as requirements change. These digital models support the design of medical devices, prosthetic components, laboratory systems, and tissue-engineering structures, while enabling visualization, fabrication planning, and collaboration across engineering and biomedical teams. CAD design also provides a foundation for computer-aided manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and design evaluation before physical production.

Methods for designing a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) surgical guide are shown. Cutting planes are separated, united, and thickened to easily visualize the necessary bone transfer. These designs can be three-dimensional printed and checked for accuracy.

Designing a Bio-responsive Robot from DNA Origami

DNA origami is a powerful method for fabricating precise nanoscale objects by programming the self-assembly of DNA molecules. Here, we describe how DNA origami can be utilized to design a robotic robot capable of sensing biological cues and responding by shape shifting, subsequently relayed to a desired effect.

Group Design

2020

The most basic experimental design involves two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The two groups are designed to be the same except for one difference— experimental manipulation. The experimental group gets the experimental manipulation—that is, the treatment or variable being tested—and the control group does not. Since experimental manipulation is the only difference between the experimental and control groups, we can be sure that any differences between the two are due to...

From Theory to Design: The Role of Creativity in Designing Experiments

2023

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University Research studies come into being when a researcher speculates about human thought, emotions, or behavior, and has a theory that offers a potential explanation. Often the researcher’s theory is firmly situated in everyday common experiences that may not naturally lend themselves to direct empirical study. For example, researchers speculated that perception of a person on Facebook is influenced by...
