Cancer Prevention Diet

A cancer prevention diet is a dietary pattern designed to reduce diet-related risk factors and support overall health, rather than guarantee that cancer will not develop. It typically emphasizes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and other minimally processed foods while limiting alcohol and heavily processed foods; fiber and plant-derived compounds may influence digestion, inflammation, metabolism, and the gut microbiome. In biology, studying these patterns helps researchers examine how nutrition interacts with cellular damage, hormone regulation, immune function, and inherited susceptibility, informing public health guidance and complementary strategies for reducing cancer risk.

Several factors can increase the risk of cancer in an individual. About 50% of cancer cases can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, eating healthy, and following a modest cancer prevention diet. Epidemiological studies have consistently shown that populations with vegetable and fruit-rich diets have reduced the incidence of cancer. On the other hand, populations who have a diet rich in animal fat, red meat, junk food, or high calories are predisposed to cancer. Some...

This is a high fat diet feeding protocol to induce obesity in Drosophila, a model for understanding fundamental molecular mechanisms implicated in lipotoxicity. It also provides a high throughput triacylglyceride assay for measuring fat accumulation in Drosophila and potentially other (insect) models under various dietary, environmental, genetic or physiological conditions.
