Fg Nucleoporins

Fg nucleoporins are phenylalanine-glycine repeat-containing proteins that form the selective permeability barrier within nuclear pore complexes, regulating molecular exchange between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Their intrinsically disordered regions contain repeated FG motifs that interact transiently with karyopherins, allowing receptor-bound cargo to pass while restricting most other macromolecules. These interactions support the active transport of proteins and RNA through nuclear pores and help maintain nuclear organization. Studying Fg nucleoporins clarifies how cells control nucleocytoplasmic transport and provides insight into transport-related diseases, viral trafficking, and the molecular design of selective biomolecular barriers.

2011

The cornea is unique in that it lacks vascular tissues. However, robust blood vessel growth and survival can be induced in the cornea by potent angiogenic factors. Therefore, the cornea can provide with us a valuable tool for angiogenic studies. This protocol demonstrates how to perform the mouse model of cornea pocket assay and how to assess the angiogenesis induced by angiogenic factors using this model.

Nuclear Export of mRNA

2020

Before mRNAs are exported to the cytoplasm, it is crucial to check each mRNA for structural and functional integrity. Eukaryotic cells use several different mechanisms, collectively known as mRNA surveillance, to look for irregularities in mRNAs. Irregular or aberrant mRNA are rapidly degraded by various enzymes. If a defective mRNA escapes the surveillance, it would be translated into a protein which would either be non-functional or not function properly. One of the primary irregularities in...
