Generalized Epilepsy

Generalized epilepsy is a group of neurological disorders in which seizures arise from and rapidly involve distributed networks in both cerebral hemispheres, making it important for understanding abnormal brain excitability. Seizures result from excessive, synchronized neuronal activity that disrupts normal communication, producing patterns such as absence seizures, myoclonic jerks, or generalized tonic-clonic convulsions. Diagnosis commonly combines clinical observation with electroencephalography, which can reveal characteristic widespread electrical discharges, while treatment aims to stabilize network activity with antiseizure medications. In biology, generalized epilepsy provides a model for studying ion channels, neurotransmitter balance, genetic influences, and the network mechanisms that regulate consciousness and movement.

2016

High Frequency Oscillations (HFOs) have emerged as presurgical biomarkers for the identification of the epileptogenic zone in pediatric patients with medically refractory epilepsy. A methodology for the noninvasive recording, detection, and localization of HFOs with simultaneous scalp electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) is presented.

This protocol describes a procedure to track the evolution of mesial network measures in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patients. It is based on the combination of intracranial recordings with a novel numerical technique for data analysis. Specifically, we present a protocol for network analyses of foramen ovale recordings.

Generalized Hooke's Law

2025

The generalized Hooke's Law is a broadened version of Hooke's Law, which extends to all types of stress and in every direction. Consider an isotropic material shaped into a cube subjected to multiaxial loading. In this scenario, normal stresses are exerted along the three coordinate axes. As a result of these stresses, the cubic shape deforms into a rectangular parallelepiped. Despite this deformation, the new shape maintains equal sides, and there is a normal strain in the direction of the...

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

2025

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is a chronic condition characterized by excessive and uncontrollable worry that persists for at least six months, significantly interfering with daily functioning. Unlike situational anxiety, which arises in response to specific stressors, GAD often occurs without a clear cause. Individuals may experience disproportionate worry about work, health, or relationships. For instance, a person might continuously fear poor health despite normal medical evaluations or...
