Immunofluorescence Characterization

Immunofluorescence characterization is a microscopy-based technique that uses fluorescently labeled antibodies to identify and localize specific proteins or other molecular targets in cells and tissues. Samples are typically fixed to preserve structure, then permeabilized when needed so antibodies can reach intracellular targets; primary antibodies bind the target, while fluorescent secondary antibodies can amplify and reveal the signal under a fluorescence microscope. In biology, this method helps characterize cell types, protein distribution, subcellular localization, and changes in cellular phenotype. By combining molecular specificity with spatial information, immunofluorescence supports research in cell biology, developmental biology, disease mechanisms, and tissue analysis.

An Immunofluorescent Method for Characterization of Barrett’s Esophagus Cells

2014

There is a discernible need for improved information on molecular drivers of Barrett’s Esophagus. Immunofluorescent staining is a useful technique for understanding the effects of cell signaling on cell morphology. We present a simple, effective protocol for the use of immunofluorescent staining to assess therapeutic treatment in Barrett’s Esophagus cells.

CTC Immunofluorescence Assay : A Technique to Characterize Circulating Tumor Cells

2023

This video describes the Circulating Tumor Cells (CTC) Immunofluorescence assay, a technique to characterize the biomarkers on circulating tumor cells in non-small cell lung cancer patient samples. This assay could be used to monitor dynamic changes of the tumor and immune response, which may reflect the response to chemotherapy, radiation, and possible immunotherapy treatments.

An Immunofluorescence Assay to Characterize and Quantify Mammalian Stress Granules

(2019)This video demonstrates the immunofluorescence staining of small bowel neuroendocrine tumor spheroids. The spheroids are fixed, permeabilized, and blocked and are then incubated with primary and secondary antibodies. A dye is added to stain nuclei before mounting and visualizing them under a fluorescent microscope.
