Magnetic Particle Concentrator

A Magnetic Particle Concentrator is a device that uses magnetic forces to collect, retain, or separate magnetically responsive particles from a fluid, supporting efficient sample preparation in biological research. It typically places a magnetic field or field gradient near a sample, causing particles attached to magnetic beads to migrate toward a collection surface while nonmagnetic liquid and materials are removed through washing or aspiration. This principle enables the isolation and purification of cells, proteins, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules, often with reduced handling and processing time. Magnetic particle concentration is therefore valuable in cell separation, molecular biology workflows, diagnostics, and automated laboratory systems.

A scanner for imaging magnetic particles in planar samples was developed using the planar frequency mixing magnetic detection technique. The magnetic intermodulation product response from the nonlinear nonhysteretic magnetization of the particles is recorded upon a two-frequency excitation. It can be used to take 2D images of thin biological samples.

Growth and Differentiation of Magnetic Nano Particle-Loaded Neurons on Magnetic Platforms

This video demonstrates the uptake of fluorescent magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) by the neuronal cells via endocytosis. Growing these MNP-loaded neurons on the magnetically patterned substrate enables the attachment of the cells. The addition of a growth factor containing medium aids in the growth of neuron extensions, while the magnetic field of the substrate directs the orientation of the extension.

A Technique for Magnetic Glass Particle-Mediated Nucleic Acid Extraction from Blood

This video demonstrates a technique for nucleic acid extraction from whole human blood using magnetic glass particles (MGPs) — small magnetic beads coated with silica. Upon lysing the blood cells using a lysis buffer, the released nucleic acids bind to the surface of silica-coated MGPs, extracting the molecules from the sample.

Motion Of A Charged Particle In A Magnetic Field

2023

A charged particle experiences a force when moving through a magnetic field. Consider the field to be uniform and the charged particle to move perpendicular to it. If the field is in a vacuum, the magnetic field is the dominant factor determining the motion. Since the magnetic force is perpendicular to the direction of motion, a charged particle follows a curved path. The particle continues to follow this curved path until it forms a complete circle. Another way to look at this is that the...
