Silver Staining

Silver staining is a highly sensitive biological staining technique that uses silver compounds to make proteins, cells, and tissue structures visible under a microscope or after gel electrophoresis. In the staining process, silver ions bind to cellular or biomolecular components and are chemically reduced to metallic silver, forming dark deposits at the locations of interest. Researchers use silver staining to detect low-abundance proteins in polyacrylamide gels, visualize tissue architecture such as reticular fibers, and reveal microorganisms or specialized cellular structures. Its strong signal supports protein analysis, histology, diagnostic investigations, and research where conventional dyes lack sufficient sensitivity.
