Ceramic Petri Dishes

Ceramic Petri dishes are shallow, reusable laboratory vessels made from fired ceramic, typically used to hold specimens, reagents, or biological cultures under controlled conditions. Their rigid, heat-resistant body provides physical containment and a stable surface, while the glaze or unglazed finish influences porosity, cleaning, sterilization, and interactions with cells or tissues. In cancer research, these dishes have specialized value in studying how tumor cells respond to ceramic or other biomaterial surfaces, supporting investigations of cell adhesion, growth, and tissue-engineering environments. Because surface chemistry and sterilization can affect experimental outcomes, researchers must select and characterize the dish before use.
