Ambient Temperature

Ambient temperature is the temperature of the surrounding environment, a practical reference condition that influences how chemical substances behave and how experiments are performed. In chemistry, it affects molecular motion, so changes in ambient temperature can alter reaction rates, equilibrium positions, solubility, viscosity, vapor pressure, and the physical state of materials. Chemists therefore monitor and control ambient conditions when preparing solutions, handling volatile compounds, calibrating instruments, or comparing experimental results. Reporting this condition improves reproducibility and helps distinguish effects caused by a chemical process from those caused by environmental temperature changes.

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy is an unambiguous method to measure free radicals. The use of selective spin probes allows for detection of free radicals in different cellular compartments. We present a practical, efficient method to collect biological samples that facilitate treating, storing, and transferring samples for EPR measurements.
