Cyclic Dienes S Cis

Cyclic dienes in the s-cis conformation are conjugated ring systems whose two double bonds lie on the same side of the intervening single bond, a geometry that strongly influences their chemical reactivity. This arrangement aligns the diene’s π orbitals for effective overlap with a dienophile, enabling concerted [4+2] cycloaddition in the Diels–Alder reaction; ring structure can restrict rotation and stabilize or enforce the reactive s-cis geometry. Understanding this conformational relationship helps explain differences in reaction rate, product formation, and stereoselectivity. Cyclic s-cis dienes are therefore valuable tools for studying pericyclic mechanisms and constructing complex molecules in organic synthesis.

Cis-regulatory Sequences

2020

Cis-regulatory sequences are short fragments of non-coding DNA that are present on the same chromosomes as the genes that they regulate. These fragments serve as binding sites for transcriptional regulators, proteins that are responsible for controlling gene transcription and differential gene expression across cell types in eukaryotes. Cis-regulatory sequences can be close to the gene of interest or thousands of bases away in the DNA sequence; however, those sequences that are further away are...

Cyclic Voltammetry (CV)

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Kayla Green — Texas Christian University A Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) experiment involves the scan of a range of potential voltages while measuring current. In the CV experiment, the potential of an immersed, stationary electrode is scanned from a predetermined starting potential to a final value (called the switching potential) and then the reverse scan is obtained. This gives a 'cyclic' sweep of potentials and the current vs. potential curve derived from the data is...

Quantitative Comparison of cis-Regulatory Element (CRE) Activities in Transgenic Drosophila melanogaster

2011

Phenotypic variation for traits can result from mutations in cis-regulatory element (CRE) sequences that control gene expression patterns. Methods derived for use in Drosophila melanogaster can quantitatively compare the levels of spatial and temporal patterns of gene expression mediated by modified or naturally occurring CRE variants.

Diels–Alder Reaction: Characteristics of Dienes

2023

The Diels–Alder reaction brings together a diene and a dienophile to form a six-membered ring. Both components have unique characteristics that influence the rate of the reaction. Characteristics of the diene Conformation The simplest example of a diene is 1,3-butadiene, an acyclic conjugated π system. At room temperature, the molecule exists as a mixture of s-cis and s-trans conformers by virtue of rotation around the carbon–carbon single bond. Although the s-trans isomer is more stable, the...
