Donor Acceptor Pair

A donor-acceptor pair in chemistry consists of two species that interact when one donates an electron pair and the other accepts it, forming a foundation for understanding chemical bonding and reactivity. In a Lewis acid-base interaction, the donor supplies a lone pair to the acceptor’s electron-deficient center, producing a coordinate covalent bond; related pairs can also participate in electron transfer. These interactions help explain complex formation, molecular recognition, catalysis, and charge-transfer behavior. Studying donor-acceptor pairs therefore supports the interpretation and design of reactions, coordination compounds, and functional materials with controlled electronic properties.

Single port laparoscopic surgery is changing the standard of care in surgical care like nothing since the laparoscopic technique was introduced 20 years ago. We present out technique of single port donor nephrectomy using the Gelpoint device. We have successfully performed this surgery in 100 patients.

DNA Base Pairing

2020

Erwin Chargaff’s rules on DNA equivalence paved the way for the discovery of base pairing in DNA. Chargaff’s rules state that in a double-stranded DNA molecule, the amount of adenine (A) is equal to the amount of thymine (T); the amount of guanine (G) is equal to the amount of cytosine (C); and the sum of purines, A and G, is equal to the sum of pyrimidines, C and T (i.e., A+G = C+T). Later work by Watson and Crick revealed that in double-stranded DNA, A always forms two hydrogen bonds...

Endothelial corneal transplantation is a surgical technique for treatment of posterior corneal diseases. Mechanical microkeratome dissection to prepare tissue results in thinner, more symmetric grafts with less endothelial cell loss and improved outcomes. Dissections can be performed at the eye bank prior to corneal transplantation surgery.

Conjugation: A Method to Transfer Ampicillin Resistance from Donor to Recipient E. coli

Source: Alexander S. Gold1, Tonya M. Colpitts1 1 Department of Microbiology, Boston University School of Medicine, National Emerging Infections Diseases Laboratories, Boston, MA First discovered by Lederberg and Tatum in 1946, conjugation is a form of horizontal gene transfer between bacteria that relies on direct physical contact between two bacterial cells (1). Unlike other forms of gene transfer, such as transformation or transduction, conjugation is a naturally occurring process in which...

Sign Test for Matched Pairs

2025

The sign test for matched pairs offers a robust method for comparing two paired samples, often for the effects of an intervention in one of them. This method is very useful in situations where the underlying distribution of the data is unknown. The test compares two related samples—often pre- and post-treatment measurements on the same subjects—to determine if there are significant differences in their median values. To conduct the sign test, we first calculate the differences in value between...
