Nebulizer Spray Chamber

A nebulizer spray chamber is an interface in analytical chemistry that converts a liquid sample into a controlled aerosol and selects droplets suitable for introduction into an instrument. A nebulizer uses a gas stream to break the sample into droplets, while the spray chamber removes larger droplets through inertial impaction, gravity, or both, allowing finer aerosol particles to reach an inductively coupled plasma. This process reduces solvent loading, improves signal stability, and supports more consistent atomization and ionization. Nebulizer spray chambers are therefore important components of elemental analysis by techniques such as inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry and mass spectrometry.

We present protocols to be used in the measurement of spray droplet size from agricultural nozzles used in both aerial and ground based agrochemical applications. These methods presented were developed to provide consistent and repeatable droplet size data both inter- and intra-laboratory, when using laser diffraction systems.

Topical Airway Anesthesia for Awake-endoscopic Intubation Using the Spray-as-you-go Technique with High Oxygen Flow

The topical anesthetic lidocaine was atomized using a high oxygen flow through the working channel of a flexible intubating endoscope to achieve topical airway anesthesia for awake endotracheal intubation. We prefer this modified spray-as-you-go technique for endoscopic intubation to classical bolus application because of higher patient satisfaction and better compliance.
