Trans Cinnamic Acid

Trans-cinnamic acid is an aromatic, unsaturated carboxylic acid and an important building block in organic chemistry. Its trans configuration places the phenyl group and carboxylic acid group on opposite sides of a carbon-carbon double bond, while conjugation across the aromatic ring, alkene, and carbonyl group influences its stability, reactivity, and ultraviolet absorption. The compound can participate in reactions such as esterification, reduction, and electrophilic substitution, allowing chemists to modify its structure and properties. These features support its use in synthesizing pharmaceuticals, fragrances, flavor compounds, and functional materials, while also making it a useful model for studying structure-reactivity relationships.

We describe a valuable diagnostic assay that could potentially be used to decide the withdrawal of immunosuppression after transplant without elevated risk of graft rejection. The assay uses the principles of Delayed Type Hypersensitivity and provides accurate assessment of both donor specific effector and regulatory immune responses mounted by recipients.

Disubstituted Cyclohexanes: cis-trans Isomerism

2023

Depending upon the different spatial orientation of the substituents, the disubstituted cycloalkanes exhibit two types of stereoisomers. The cis isomers have the substituents on the same side of the ring, whereas the trans isomers have the substituents on the opposite sides. These stereoisomers exhibit different physical properties and cannot be interconverted without breaking the carbon-carbon bonds. In cyclohexane, the substituents can occupy different positions generating distinct isomers.
