Reciprocating Cylinder Apparatus

The Reciprocating Cylinder Apparatus is a dissolution testing device that measures how an oral dosage form releases its active ingredient under controlled laboratory conditions. During testing, a sample moves vertically within a glass cylinder through dissolution media held at a controlled temperature, allowing sequential exposure to different fluids and collection of timed samples for drug- release analysis. The apparatus is particularly useful for evaluating modified-release tablets, capsules, and other oral formulations whose performance may depend on changing gastrointestinal conditions. Results support formulation development, quality control, and assessment of in vitro drug-release behavior relevant to clinical performance.

Classical forelimb asymmetry analysis of the cylinder test is routinely used to assess behavioural deficits in rats following brain injury or stroke; however, it fails to detect consistent deficits in mice. This study demonstrates that quantifying paw-dragging behaviour is a more sensitive analysis of brain injury in mice.

Cylinders in Three-Dimensional Space

2026

A cylindrical surface is generated when a two-dimensional profile curve is translated along a straight line in three-dimensional space. The translated copies of the curve form a surface composed of parallel rulings, each oriented in the same fixed direction. This construction allows many three-dimensional forms to be described using relatively simple planar equations. In Cartesian coordinates, a cylindrical surface is often recognized by an equation that omits one of the three variables. For...

Operant drug self-administration and conditioned place preference (CPP) procedures are expansively used in research to model various components of drug reinforcement, consumption, and addiction in humans. In this report, we combined traditional CPP and self-administration methods as a novel approach to studying drug reinforcement and addiction in rats.

Golgi Apparatus

Properly folded and assembled proteins are selectively packaged into vesicles that exit the ER. Motor proteins transport these vesicles to the Golgi apparatus for adding modifications that make these proteins functional at their destination. The Golgi apparatus is a eukaryotic organelle that has a distinctive ribbon-like appearance. It is a primary sorting and dispatch station for cargo arriving from the ER. Newly arriving vesicles enter the cis face of the Golgi, closest to the ER, and are...

As they leave the Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER), properly folded and assembled proteins are selectively packaged into vesicles. These vesicles are transported by microtubule-based motor proteins and fuse together to form vesicular tubular clusters, subsequently arriving at the Golgi apparatus, a eukaryotic endomembrane organelle that often has a distinctive ribbon-like appearance. The Golgi apparatus is a major sorting and dispatch station for the products of the ER. Newly arriving vesicles enter...
