Therapeutic Efficacy

Therapeutic efficacy is the extent to which a treatment produces its intended health benefit under defined clinical conditions, making it a central concept in evaluating medical interventions. Researchers assess efficacy by measuring prespecified outcomes, such as symptom reduction, disease control, functional improvement, or survival, often through controlled clinical trials that compare treatment groups with a control or baseline. Efficacy data help determine whether a therapy has meaningful biological and clinical effects before broader use. In clinical research, these findings guide treatment selection, support regulatory decisions, inform benefit-risk assessments, and provide a foundation for evaluating effectiveness in routine practice.
