Infrared Stimulation Control

Infrared stimulation control is a method for regulating biological activity with infrared light, offering contact-free and spatially targeted control in developmental biology. The approach delivers selected infrared wavelengths, intensities, and exposure times to cells, tissues, or infrared-responsive tools; absorbed energy can produce localized photothermal effects or trigger engineered molecular responses, depending on the system. Researchers can use this control to manipulate signaling, cell behavior, and developmental timing while limiting physical disturbance to the specimen. Such experiments help link precisely timed stimuli to changes in pattern formation, tissue organization, and morphogenesis, supporting quantitative studies of how organisms develop and respond to controlled environmental cues.

Adaptive deep brain stimulation (aDBS) is effective for Parkinson’s disease, improving symptoms and reducing power consumption compared to conventional deep brain stimulation (cDBS). In aDBS we track a local field potential biomarker (beta oscillatory amplitude) in real time and use this to control the timing of stimulation.
