Vimentin-rich Cells

Vimentin-rich cells are cells that contain abundant vimentin, a type III intermediate filament protein that helps maintain cellular structure and adaptability. Vimentin filaments assemble into a dynamic cytoskeletal network that supports mechanical resilience, organizes the cytoplasm, and enables changes in cell shape and movement. In developmental biology, vimentin-rich cells are studied as indicators of mesenchymal identity and cell-state transitions during tissue formation, migration, and remodeling. Assessing vimentin abundance and filament organization can help researchers track developing cell populations, investigate epithelial-to-mesenchymal transitions, and connect cytoskeletal dynamics with morphogenesis and tissue development.
