Classroom Behavior Detection

Classroom behavior detection is an engineering application of computer vision and machine learning that identifies and interprets observable student actions in learning environments. Cameras or other sensors collect visual data, while image-processing and classification algorithms analyze features such as posture, gestures, movement, and interactions to distinguish predefined behaviors. These systems can support educational analytics by helping instructors recognize participation patterns, identify disruptions, and evaluate classroom conditions at scale. When designed with privacy protection, representative training data, and human oversight, classroom behavior detection can inform responsive teaching, improve learning-environment design, and advance intelligent educational technologies.

Creating Materials for the Hawk-Dove Game and Trading Exercise ExpandUse card stock paper to create a set of two cards for each student, and label one “dove” and the other “hawk”. NOTE: The cards should be opaque and there should be no obvious differences between the cards. Gather small objects in two colors – beads work well. Make sure there are enough for each student to have 20 of the same color and each half of the class to have a different color. Print the single partner recording table,...

In this video article, we describe a new method allowing the construction of odorant gradients with stable and controllable geometries. We briefly illustrate how these gradients can be used to screen for olfactory defects (full and partial anosmia) and to study more subtle features of chemotaxis behavior.

Here, we present a protocol to quantify nest building behavior in mice, which is known to be impaired in several neurological disorders and diseases. This protocol examines the utility of four materials and offers the opportunity to quantify the rater agreement in scoring, improving the validity and reliability of the assay.
