Flexible Bending Sensor

A flexible bending sensor is a compliant device that detects or measures how much an object curves, providing useful information about shape, movement, and deformation. Typically, bending strains a conductive trace or sensing layer on a flexible substrate, changing its electrical resistance, capacitance, or another measurable signal in proportion to the applied curvature. In engineering, these sensors support wearable motion monitoring, soft robotics, prosthetic control, human-machine interfaces, and structural measurements where rigid sensors cannot conform to moving surfaces. Their lightweight, adaptable form enables real-time feedback while preserving flexibility, making them valuable for compact, body-compatible, and deformable electronic systems.

2016

This manuscript describes the bending process of an organic single crystal-based field-effect transistor to maintain a functioning device for electronic property measurement. The results suggest that bending causes changes in the molecular spacing in the crystal and thus in the charge hopping rate, which is important in flexible electronics.

Fabrication of Flexible Image Sensor Based on Lateral NIPIN Phototransistors

2018

We present a detailed method to fabricate a deformable lateral NIPIN phototransistor array for curved image sensors. The phototransistor array with an open mesh form, which is composed of thin silicon islands and stretchable metal interconnectors, provides flexibility and stretchability. The parameter analyzer characterizes the electrical property of the fabricated phototransistor.

Pure bending is a fundamental concept in structural mechanics, essential for understanding how materials deform under symmetrical loads without direct forces. Pure bending occurs when prismatic members, such as beams, are subjected to equal and opposite moments that induce bending. The phenomenon is crucial as it allows for predicting stress distributions without the influence of axial or shear forces. In pure bending, the bending stress in a beam is calculated based on the bending moment and...

Symmetric Member in Bending

In the study of the mechanics of materials, analyzing the behavior of prismatic members under opposing couples is crucial for understanding internal stress distributions, which are essential for structural design. When subjected to couples, a prismatic member experiences internal forces that maintain equilibrium. A couple, characterized by two equal and opposite forces, creates a moment but no resultant force. The internal forces at any section cut of the member must balance these external...
