Trap Deployment

Trap deployment is the planned placement and operation of devices that capture, detect, or sample organisms and other environmental targets for monitoring and research. Investigators select trap type, bait or attractant, location, spacing, and exposure time according to the target species and habitat, then retrieve samples using standardized procedures. In environmental studies, traps can measure species presence, relative abundance, activity, or changes in community composition while limiting variation caused by inconsistent sampling. The resulting data support biodiversity assessments, invasive-species surveillance, population studies, and evaluation of ecosystem change, especially when repeated deployments enable comparisons across sites or seasons.

Social Traps

2020

Social traps are negative situations where people get caught in a direction or relationship that later proves to be unpleasant, with no easy way to back out of or avoid. The concept was orignally introduced by John Platt who applied psychology to Garrett Hardin's "Tragedy of the Commons", where in New England herd owners could let their cattle graze in the common ground. This situation seems like a good idea, but an individual could have an advantage. If they owned more cows, the larger...

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire A wing is the major lift-generating apparatus in an airplane. Wing performance can be further enhanced by deploying high-lift devices, such as flaps (at the trailing edge) and slats (at the leading edge) during takeoff or landing. In this experiment, a wind tunnel is utilized to generate certain airspeeds, and a Clark Y-14 wing with a flap and slat...
