Acid Orange 7

Acid Orange 7 is a synthetic anionic azo dye used primarily to color textiles and as a model compound for studying environmental contaminants. Its orange color arises from an azo bond linking aromatic groups, while bacteria and other microorganisms can reduce this bond through azoreductase activity, producing aromatic amines that may require further degradation. In immunology and infection research, Acid Orange 7 supports investigations of microbial dye biotransformation, contaminant-associated oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses to dye-derived products. These studies help clarify how environmental chemicals interact with host defenses and guide strategies for wastewater treatment and safer industrial practices.

Caspase-3/7 Assay: A Luminescence-Based Assay to Quantify Apoptosis by Measuring Caspase-3/7 Activities in Frog Skin Explants

2025

This video describes an in vitro Caspase-3/7 luminescent assay to quantify cell death or apoptosis. The assay measures luminescence produced following caspase-3/7 cleavage of a pro-luminescent DEVD substrate. The luminescence generated is proportional to caspase-3/7 activity.

The sensitivity gain inherent to ultrahigh field magnetic resonance holds promise for high spatial resolution imaging of the heart. Here, we describe a protocol customized for functional cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) at 7 Tesla using an advanced multi-channel radio-frequency coil, magnetic field shimming and a triggering concept.

DNA Electrophoresis Using Thiazole Orange Instead of Ethidium Bromide or Alternative Dyes

Acids and Bases An Arrhenius acid produces hydrogen ions when it is dissolved in water: HA + H2O → H+(aq) + A-(aq) Here, HA is the non-dissociated acid, H+ is the hydrogen cation, and A- is the solvated anion — called the conjugate base. An Arrhenius base produces hydroxide ions when dissolved in water: BOH + H2O → B+(aq) + OH-(aq) Here, BOH is the non-dissociated base, OH- is the hydroxide ion, and B+ is the solvated cation — called the conjugate acid. A conjugate base is formed when an acid...

Acid-Base Titration Curves

2020

A titration curve is a plot of some solution property versus the amount of added titrant. For acid-base titrations, solution pH is a useful property to monitor because it varies predictably with the solution composition and, therefore, may be used to monitor the titration’s progress and detect its endpoint. Acid-base titration can be performed with a strong acid and a strong base, a strong acid and a weak base, or a strong base and a weak acid. For a titration carried out for 25.00 mL of 0.100...
