Portable Imager Detection

Portable imager detection is the use of compact imaging devices to identify and assess biological signals outside conventional laboratory instruments, supporting rapid analysis in immunology and infection research. These systems acquire images from samples or test formats and use signal intensity, spatial patterns, or image-based measurements to distinguish target responses, such as immune reactions or infection-associated markers. Their portability can shorten the path from sample collection to result, enabling field studies, point-of-care testing, and monitoring where laboratory access is limited. By combining accessible image acquisition with quantitative interpretation, portable detection platforms can support faster investigation of pathogen transmission, host responses, and diagnostic performance.

2016

This protocol describes the rapid and highly sensitive quantification of Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) sensor data using a custom-made portable FRET analyzer. The device was used to detect maltose within a critical temperature range that maximizes detection sensitivity, enabling practical and efficient assessment of sugar content.

Acute Wallenberg's syndrome can be misdiagnosed as a non-stroke disease, such as auditory vertigo. Thus, careful neurological examination, which is sometimes difficult for non-neurologists, is necessary for precise diagnosis. Here, we present a simple, rapid, noninvasive, and cost-effective method for detection of acute Wallenberg's syndrome using portable thermography.

We present a magnetic levitation technique coupled with automated imaging and analysis in both a smartphone-compatible device and a device with embedded imaging and processing. This is applied to measure the density distribution of cells with two demonstrated biomedical applications: sickle cell disease diagnosis and separating white and red blood cells.

Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is increasingly being utilized in airway management. Presented here are some clinical utilities of POCUS, including differentiating endotracheal and esophageal intubation, identification of the cricothyroid membrane in the event a surgical airway is required, and measuring anterior neck soft tissue to predict difficult airway management. ...
