Pressurized Air Source

A pressurized air source is a device that supplies air at a controlled pressure above ambient conditions, enabling consistent airflow, fluid movement, or pneumatic operation in laboratory systems. It works by compressing and storing air, then regulating its pressure and flow through tubing, valves, filters, or other connected components. In immunology and infection research, pressurized air can support controlled aerosol generation, delivery of biological materials, or operation of containment and ventilation equipment. Stable pressure and clean, regulated air help improve experimental reproducibility, reduce contamination risks, and support safer studies of airborne transmission, host responses, and infectious disease mechanisms.

2013

The laser heated diamond anvil cell combined with synchrotron micro-diffraction techniques allows researchers to explore the nature and properties of new phases of matter at extreme pressure and temperature (PT) conditions. Heterogeneous samples can be characterized in situ under high pressure by 2D mapping and combined powder, single-crystal and multigrain diffraction approaches.

2023

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Suprita Jharimune, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Working with extreme temperatures, both high and low, is an integral part of many laboratory operations. For many, mentioning a laboratory instantly evokes the mental picture of a Bunsen burner. Bunsen burners and hot plates are used extensively in small and large operations in research laboratories and industries, thus making it necessary for all users to be aware of their safe handling...

Wet Beveling of Microinjection Needles Utilizing Constant Air Pressure for Feedback on Needle Opening

This protocol describes the assembly of a pneumatic system for the delivery of pressurized air to a needle during the process of needle beveling. The protocol further describes the beveling process for creating sharp microinjection needles and how to gauge the relative opening size of the needle.

Handling Air- and Water-Sensitive Chemicals Using a Schlenk Line

Robert M Rioux, Ajay Sathe, Zhifeng Chen, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA The use of reagents sensitive to oxidation or moisture necessitates the use of air-free techniques. A Schlenk line is a routinely used glass apparatus to perform air and moisture free manipulations in a chemical laboratory1. The Schlenk line is widely utilized by many chemists since it allows them conduct air or water sensitive reactions even without the expense and restriction of a glove box. The...
