Tumor-macrophage Interactions

Tumor-macrophage interactions describe the dynamic communication between cancer cells and macrophages within the tumor microenvironment, influencing tumor growth, immune responses, and disease progression. Tumor-derived signals, including cytokines and other soluble factors, can recruit macrophages and alter their functional state, while macrophages in turn release mediators that affect cancer-cell survival, blood-vessel formation, tissue remodeling, and immune suppression. Understanding these interactions helps explain how tumors evade host defenses and provides a foundation for studying macrophage-targeted therapies, combination immunotherapies, and biomarkers that may predict treatment response in cancer and infection-related immune research.
