Preserve Side Lengths

Preserving side lengths is the geometric principle that a transformation keeps the length of every corresponding segment unchanged, an essential condition for congruence and rigid motion. This occurs when points move through translations, rotations, or reflections, because these distance-preserving transformations maintain the Euclidean distance between each pair of points; in coordinate geometry, the distance formula can verify the result before and after transformation. The principle helps identify congruent figures, analyze symmetry, construct accurate geometric images, and distinguish rigid transformations from dilations or other changes that alter scale. It also supports proofs involving corresponding sides and spatial models.

Interference: Path Lengths

Consider two sources of sound, that may or may not be in phase, emitting waves at a single frequency, and consider the frequencies to be the same. Two special sources may be considered when they are in phase. This can be easily achieved by feeding the two sources from the same source. An example would be synchronizing the two speakers by feeding them with the same source, such as the sound waves produced by a tuning fork. This setup ensures that the two sources have the same frequency and are...

Bond Energies and Bond Lengths

Stable molecules exist because covalent bonds hold the atoms together. The strength of a covalent bond is measured by the energy required to break it, that is, the energy necessary to separate the bonded atoms. Separating any pair of bonded atoms requires energy — the stronger a bond, the greater the energy required to break it. The energy required to break a specific covalent bond in one mole of gaseous molecules is called the bond energy or the bond dissociation energy. The bond energy for a...

Integration Applied to Polar Coordinates to Find Arc Lengths

In polar coordinates, a plane curve is described by a radial distance r from a fixed point, called the pole, and an angle θ measured from a reference direction. This system is especially useful for paths that naturally involve rotation, such as an expanding spiral followed by a search drone. If the hiker’s last known position is treated as the pole, then the drone’s location at any instant can be represented by the polar equation r = f(θ), where the distance from the pole changes as the drone...

Innovative Strategies for Organ Preservation in Heart Transplantation: Uniform Cooling Preservation and Ex-situ Normothermic Perfusion

2025

Donor heart preservation is a major determinant of success in heart transplantation. Technological advances have led to optimizing the conditions of preservation, along with a more accurate assessment of the donor heart before transplantation. We herein describe two innovative technologies currently applied for cardiac preservation: uniform cooling preservation and normothermic ex-situ heart perfusion.

Pasteurization and Food Preservation

Pasteurization is a widely employed thermal processing technique designed to enhance the safety and shelf life of perishable food and beverages. By subjecting products to specific high temperatures for controlled durations, this method effectively inactivates pathogenic microorganisms and spoilage enzymes without significantly compromising sensory qualities. The technique has been pivotal in food safety management, especially for consumables susceptible to microbial contamination such as milk,...
