Blood Withdrawal

Blood withdrawal is the controlled removal of blood from the body for diagnostic testing, therapeutic treatment, donation, or research, making it a foundational procedure in medicine. In routine venipuncture, a trained practitioner cleans the skin, inserts a sterile needle into a vein, and transfers blood into labeled collection tubes while maintaining patient safety and specimen integrity. The collected sample can support hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and molecular analyses, while therapeutic blood withdrawal can reduce excess blood volume or specific cellular components in selected conditions. Accurate technique, appropriate tube selection, and careful handling help produce reliable results and minimize complications.
