Core Muscle Activation

Core muscle activation is the coordinated recruitment of muscles surrounding the abdomen, spine, pelvis, and hips to support trunk stability and controlled movement. It occurs when the nervous system activates deep and superficial muscles, often through sustained or anticipatory contractions, to regulate spinal alignment, intra-abdominal pressure, and force transfer between the upper and lower body. In medicine and rehabilitation, clinicians assess and train core activation to improve movement control after injury, support functional exercise, and address impaired trunk stability. Electromyography, ultrasound imaging, and movement-based exercises can help evaluate activation patterns and guide individualized treatment.

The Nucleosome Core Particle

2020

Nucleosomes are the DNA-histone complex, where the DNA strand is wound around the histone core. The histone core is an octamer containing two copies of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 histone proteins. The paradox Nucleosomes, paradoxically, perform two opposite functions simultaneously. On the one hand, their main responsibility is to protect the delicate DNA strands from physical damage and help achieve a higher compaction ratio. While on the other hand, they must allow polymerase enzymes to access DNA...

2011

A surgical technique for implantation of commercially available telemetry transmitters used for continuous measurement of biopotential (one-lead ECG), heart rate, core body temperature and locomotor activity in freely moving mice is shown. Recommendations and protocols for post-operative care and pain relief, improving recovery, well being and survival rate are also presented.

This protocol uses motion mode ultrasound and surface electromyography simultaneously to measure muscle function of the core. Muscle thickness and activation of the local stabilizers (e.g., transverse abdominis, internal oblique) and global movers (e.g., external oblique) is achievable during specific time points of the side plank and dead bug exercises.
