Finger Strength Stability

Finger strength stability is the ability to produce and maintain consistent force during hand and finger tasks, making it a useful indicator of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal function. It depends on coordinated muscle activation, tendon and joint integrity, sensory feedback, and control of force over time rather than peak strength alone. In medicine, clinicians can assess finger strength stability to characterize hand function, monitor recovery after injury or surgery, and identify changes associated with neurological or musculoskeletal disorders. Repeated measurements may also help evaluate rehabilitation progress and guide treatment by distinguishing impaired force production from difficulty sustaining controlled performance.

Deficits in muscular strength occur in many clinical conditions such as motor neuron disease. The inverted screen and weight lifting tests described here measure strength in mice almost exclusively, with minimal influence of factors such as coordination.

Source: Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti and Sina Shahbazmohamadi, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut For over 4000 years, sutures have been used as a medical intervention. The earliest records indicate linen was the biomaterial of choice. Catgut, which is still in use today, was reportedly used to treat gladiators around 150 AD. Today, there are numerous materials being used for sutures. Sutures are classified by their composition (natural or...

Acid Strength and Molecular Structure

Binary Acids and Bases In the absence of any leveling effect, the acid strength of binary compounds of hydrogen with nonmetals (A) increases as the H-A bond strength decreases down a group in the periodic table. For group 17, the order of increasing acidity is HF < HCl < HBr < HI. Likewise, for group 16, the order of increasing acid strength is H2O < H2S < H2Se < H2Te. Across a row in the periodic table, the acid strength of binary hydrogen compounds increases with increasing...

Relation Between Tensile Strength and Compressive Strength of Concrete

2024

Concrete is a fundamental building material, and understanding its strengths is crucial for construction projects. The relationship between its tensile and compressive strengths is intricate, showing that while these strengths are related, they do not increase at the same rate. Tensile strength's growth is slower and is affected by various factors such as the methods used for testing, the size and shape of the specimen, the texture of the aggregate used, and the moisture content of the concrete.

We describe a computer-controlled device for investigating the sense of touch: the Tactile Automated Passive-finger Stimulator (TAPS). We describe the components of TAPS, and show how TAPS is used to administer a two-interval forced-choice tactile grating orientation test.
